A protective wall

I draw prayer round me like a dark protective wall, withdraw inside it as one might into a convent cell and then step outside again, calmer and stronger and more collected again. ~ Etty Hillesum, An Interrupted Life

This quote resonated with me, particularly given my recent post on labyrinths. “Just like how I feel when I walk a labyrinth!,” I thought. “I enter into prayerful meditation, drawn into protection. And then I come out the other side, prepared to venture back out into the world.”
