Photo: Beloved dahlias in Indy

dahlia at University Park in Indianapolis, Indiana

As I was heading toward the Indiana War Memorial Museum, I cut across University Park and found myself drawn to Pan and Syrinx.

I looked down and almost missed them. Smaller flowering bushes than I was accustomed to seeing in the dahlia garden in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, but there they were.

Just a few varieties were hugging the ground, but enough to delight me and make me sigh out of nostalgia for gardens devoted to them.
