Healthy longevity

“The idea is to die young as late as possible.” ~ Ashley Montagu

This quote popped up during a podcast about a book (Sod 70 The Guide to Living Well) on staying healthy throughout one’s entire life. The point was that aging (or more apt, the decline that we associate with aging) is not inevitable (though death certainly is).

Our society focuses on ways to increase our lifespan with little thought to our health during those increased years. We measure lifespan (years of life) religiously, but don’t really pay attention to health span (years of good health). But after all, what good is living a long life if you do not live it in good health?
