The Nutcracker performed by the Indiana Ballet Conservatory

I had forgotten about the rows of nutcrackers always for sale outside of productions of The Nutcracker. I watched what others were adopting to take home. The one in paisley was my favorite.

The troupe was different from last year—a different ballet school. The venue was different from last year—at the Indianapolis Museum of Art rather than the historic Scottish Rite Cathedral. The set was different—that along with the dancers makes each production of The Nutcracker unique.

The students of the Indiana Ballet Conservatory put on a delightful performance. I’m not sure which parts of the ballet I enjoy most—the mice, the snowflake dancers, or the various dancers in the Land of the Sweets.

The Nutcracker Prince (Lasha Khozashvili) and Masha (Olivia Behrmann) were amazing in Act III. Khozashivili is a visiting guest artist from the Boston Ballet and Behrmann a seventeen-year-old ballet student. Their dancing was impassioned and graceful….and yet they made it look so effortless.
