In ruins

I wander through the ruins as if in a dream.
Pillars lay broken,
The remnants are crumbling to dust.
Everything is overgrown with weeds.
How long was I gone? I rub my eyes.
Looking around for something that remains.
But nothing does.
There is an eerie silence.
In the midst of the familiar past
Are only ghosts.
I sit,
Hoping for at least their company.
But even they are ephemeral
And disappear when I turn to look at them.
