Art favorites: Mars and Venus

I love Manfredi’s Caravaggio-influenced work. Cupid Chastised is one of a handful of works—or long-time friends as I think of them—that I always have to visit when I am at the Art Institute. Caravaggio’s and his protégés’ innovative use of light is striking.

I also like the theme of Mars and Venus being romantically entangled, which may explain why I am drawn to Guillemot’s work in the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
