I lazily read through the names on the wall that listed astronauts with Hoosier connections. A few names stood out. Neil Armstrong (a Ohio Buckeye but he attended Purdue University). Gus Grissom (a Hoosier through and through). Purdue grad after Purdue grad after Purdue grad.
My eyes started to glaze over. So I took a different tactic. Where were their hometowns? Indianapolis, Logansport, etc., etc. My eyes started to glaze again. And then suddenly stopped.
Valparaiso? Valparaiso?! Really. Mark Brown. Huh. Who knew that an astronaut hailed from this small northwest Indiana town!
Of course he is retired…and living in Ohio—the state that produced the most astronauts. Seems that Ohio is the mother ship of astronauts…and that he was “called home”.
