Art favorites: Seascape

I don’t associate Renoir with ocean scenes. Perhaps that is what drew me to this painting. Or perhaps it was the soft, impressionistic colors. Or perhaps it was the fact that it is a scene of the ocean.

There is something profoundly calming about this interpretation of the sea. Strangely, it is anything but a peaceful ocean scene, more fraught with turbulence and an impending stormy night.
